The story

A vintage Royal Wessex blue and white transferware dinner plate, made in England by Churchill (crown backstamp: "Royal Wessex, Made in England, Dishwasher & Microwave Safe"). The scene shows an old coaching inn: a half-timbered Tudor inn, a stagecoach with passengers and a team of horses, a large shade tree, and a stream with a post-and-chain fence in the foreground. This coaching scene is often sold as Royal Wessex "Royal Mail"; no pattern name is printed on the back. Late 20th century.

Condition: Light sticker/price-tag residue on the back in two spots, just outside and just inside the foot ring (see photo 3). The blue transfer print on the front is crisp and even.

Styling ideas: display it on a plate stand or a blue and white plate wall, mix it into an English cottage kitchen, or use it for everyday dinners (dishwasher and microwave safe per the backstamp).

Approx. 10 1/4" across.

Vase, flowers and stand not included (shown for display only). Item #A175
