Why beeswax?
- Beeswax candles burn brighter and longer than paraffin.
- Many people love beeswax because it’s natural, and it’s often said to help freshen the air.
Beeswax tips & tricks
- Always light at the base of the wick, not the top.
- “Bloom,” a white, natural and harmless powder, may appear on the outside. It’s a sign of 100% beeswax and can be buffed off with a soft cloth if you wish.
- Burn for hours at a time, until the melt pool reaches the outside edge.
- Drafts, fans, vents and breezes affect burn time and flame size. Watch for a dancing flame: the candle may need rotating or moving.
- Never leave a burning candle unattended, and always use an appropriate holder (a plate, parchment, etc.).
- Dam up runs with wax to prevent rapid burning. You may need to “hug” the top edge; don’t let the walls get too high, because beeswax needs lots of oxygen to burn well.
- To put it out, dip the wick into the melt pool instead of blowing it out: less smoke, and it primes the wick for next time.
- Not every candle uses all its wax. Use the rest in other candles, or to make lotion, salve, waterproofing or crafts.
