The story

Craig Claiborne's classic Chinese cookbook, written with Virginia Lee — the New York Times food editor's much-loved guide to real Chinese home cooking. Grey linen boards with the Chinese title in black calligraphy and a red seal on the front, and the title in red on the spine. Copyright 1972, fifth printing. A warm handwritten gift note from 1978 on the dedication page gives it a little history.
